ALUMNI AWARD OF DISTINCTION

IN SERVICE OF OTHERS
Lt. Col. Ret'd Christopher Waters '72 "There is no straightforward path"

Lt. Col. Ret'd Waters '72 spent 28 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, participating in operations in Canada, Australia, Norway, Germany and Cyprus. Initially trained as a reconnaissance patrolman and anti-tank guided missile gunner, he dedicated his military career as a senior JAG (military lawyer) with the Canadian Forces.

"There is no straightforward path", he says. "Some people, like myself, do better when they go to school later in life." As Chris sees it, going to University or College should not be a box-ticking exercise and he stresses the value of travel: "There is a lot of learning that can happen outside the walls of a school."

He holds four postgraduate degrees including a Doctor of Law from Queens University. Since retiring from the Canadian Forces in 2014, he was appointed the Director of Canadian Forces Military Law Centre in Kingston and continues his teaching career at both Queen's University and St. Lawrence College.
